Designing the case artwork for a fictional videogame that was ultimately going to be developed after we wrapped on production of season 1 of Overcompensating ended up being a fun challenge. We knew going in that there wasn't going to be enough time to create the illustrated artwork completely from scratch, and so I'd have to modify an existing artwork from a stock site. But I also didn't know ultimately what the finished game was going to be, so I developed about eight different versions of the artwork before we started to zero in on what style and aesthic they wanted.
We also knew that one of the main characters would be dressed as her video game avatar in the Halloween episode, but that the costume was still being manufactured. Fortunately the costume designer was able to provide me with her prelimary sketch, which allowed me to modify and essentially redraw the figure in the stock artwork to resemble her.
You can see the finished costume to the right, and below, both the original stock illustration, and the final artwork.

I was incredibly satisfied with how the final illustration turned out, and I also really had fun writing all the small copy on the back cover, even though I knew that it would never be seen on camera.
