framed tapestry - final art
The Set Dec team on What We Do in the Shadows found an amazing ornate framed mirror, but mirrors can be trouble on a television show, and especially a vampire television show, so we needed to replace the mirror with a gothic tapestry. Our team sourced a number of grotesque etchings by Johannes and Lucas van Doetecum in the Met Museum Open Access collection.

I began making rough configurations of different elements of these etchings, forming them into different compositions until we found one that everyone liked. After that began the painstaking process of cutting out each piece from the background, and assembling it into a final design, which I laid overtop of a repeating pattern of the Morrigan family crest.
The final design was printed on fabric and then stretched into the ornate frame.
