Season 6 of What We Do in the Shadows revealed an incredible new set - Laszlo's lab. This set required dozens and dozens of pages of scientific notes, anatomical drawings, and mechanical schematics to be layered in. Some of these could be sourced, but the rest were left to me. In order to generate enough in the given time frame I used a number of different techniques.
Like the examples above, I combined various stock anatomical illustrations with hand written notes and drawings. I also sourced a number of vintage anatomical illustrations in the public domain, from artists such as Govard Bidloo, and combined them with additional notes, as seen below.
Additionally, I was able to use the plans and drawings from the set designer as the basis for some mechanical schematics, and essentially trace over some of the details with a calligraphy brush tool in Photoshop.
I also wanted to include some pages that were drawn traditionally, either by adding drawings and calculations to typewritten pages by hand, or pages that were fully drawn with a pen on paper.
All these different elements were layered in to the set, along with some anatomical artwork from the Met Museum's Open Access collection.
