All twenty pages of Laszlo's escape plan, from What We Do in the Shadows, season 5 episode 5 "Local News", with those illustrations I was responsible for highlighted on each side.
While I am often the sole designer responsible for a particular graphic developed for a set, occasionally there will be a project that requires all hands on deck. In season 5 episode 5 of What We Do in the Shadows, the script referenced Laszlo's "flowchart" (his plan to get the housemates out of the predicament they find themselves in), which starts as a single sheet on an easel, and then between scenes expands suddenly to be multiple pages suspended from nearly every surface of the foyer.
The show writers provided our team with the titles for twenty different pages they wanted represented, as well as the specific details for the initial page that the audience first sees. From there we decided what illustrations we wanted to see on each page, as represented below:
We established what the overall visual style was going to be, divided the illustrations amongst four different graphic artists, and then got to work.
As each illustration was completed, it was passed on to me, and I would start building the individual pages, filling in the surrounding text, and then I would pin up the page behind my desk so that, at any given point, each person working on this particular project knew where things stood.
Once every page received final approval, the Props Department provided our team with beautiful cream coloured watercolour paper, which I hand fed into the plotter printer to print each page.
